SŽ – Tovorni promet is a partner in the T4RAIL IT-SI project, an innovative initiative to promote technological innovation and digitisation in the railway sector in the border area between Italy and Slovenia. The project objective is to experiment the use of a translator for railway jargon called Translate4Rail on the Italian-Slovenian border. This tool will support communication between train drivers and signallers by translating predefined messages.

The first field tests of the T4RAIL IT–SI project were successfully carried out on Thursday, 18 December 2025, marking a significant milestone in the project’s implementation. The tests were carried out at Villa Opicina station with a locomotive in standstill, where drivers from project partners SŽ – Tovorni promet, RCC SI and RCC IT exchanged operational communications with the signalers of Villa Opicina and Sežana using the Translate4Rail tool in a real railway environment.

Additional tests were performed at Udine Parco station, where train drivers from project partner InRail established communication with signalers of Nova Gorica.

The initial field tests confirmed the correct setup and functioning of the Translate4Rail tool under controlled and safe conditions. This represents a key step towards the next testing phases of the T4RAIL IT–SI project.
