More than three million tons of raw materials are transported by train to Voestalpine’s steel plants in Linz and Donawitz, Austria, via the Port of Koper. Despite the obstacles caused by extensive works on the Slovenian railway network, ÖBB Rail Cargo Group (RCG) and SŽ-Tovorni promet are maintaining a stable international logistics chain for one of the world’s leading companies in the field of steel and technology solutions day after day.
On Wednesday, September 2, members of the management boards of RCG, SŽ-Tovorni promet and Voestalpine discussed in Vienna how numerous construction sites, line closures and capacity restrictions – for example due to extreme heat waves or the rerouting of international routes – are affecting supply chains that must operate reliably every day. The ÖBB Rail Cargo Group (RCG), Voestalpine and the freight transport subsidiary of Slovenske železnice, SŽ-Tovorni promet, demonstrate how this challenge can be overcome in practice using the example of transporting raw materials from the Port of Koper to Voestalpine locations in Austria.
