Slovenia is undergoing a significant transformation of its public railway infrastructure, driven by the need to modernise outdated systems and align with EU sustainability goals. Key projects include the construction of the second rail track between Divača and Koper, and upgrades to major lines like Ljubljana–Divača. These efforts aim to boost freight capacity, reduce road congestion, and support greener transport alternatives.

Unfortunately, the modernisation of the existing lines has been causing temporary bottlenecks, which are immediate challenges for rail carriers. Despite these hurdles, the users of rail cargo services stand to benefit in the future from faster, more reliable transports, improved safety standards, and better integration with European transport corridors.

To illustrate the ongoing works, we have compiled a selection of photographs by Miško Kranjec, capturing some moments and locations of the infrastructure upgrades.
